ArtSpace
Celebrating Creativity, Community, and Faith

What is ArtSpace?
ArtSpace is an inspiring initiative by the First Presbyterian Church of Highlands, located in the beautiful town of Highlands, NC.
It serves as both a program and a dedicated space for showcasing the visual arts, celebrating the Holy Spirit’s gifts of creativity and imagination.
Through ArtSpace, we aim to deepen connections with each other and the Divine, inspire creativity, and grow in faith. Art has the unique ability to speak to our souls in a language beyond words, offering new perspectives and fostering a sense of community.
This program provides a platform for local artists—whether professionals, hobbyists, church members, or community residents—to exhibit their creations. ArtSpace is more than just an art gallery; it is a welcoming environment where art becomes a means of outreach and connection for parishioners and the general public.
Who Can Benefit from ArtSpace?
ArtSpace is designed for everyone.
Whether you’re an artist, crafter, or someone who simply enjoys the beauty of artistic expression, there’s something for you here.
Creativity is a powerful avenue for finding meaning and fulfillment, enhancing our lives by offering different ways of seeing and experiencing the world.
Artists and crafters are welcome to submit their work for display and can even offer their creations for sale, though the primary purpose of ArtSpace is to foster community and appreciation for the arts.
Visitors are encouraged to come and relax in the quiet, inviting space, immersing themselves in the works of local talent.
How Did ArtSpace Begin?
ArtSpace started as a humble display of artwork in the hallway leading to the church offices.
Over time, it has grown into a walking gallery that spans multiple levels of the church, showcasing both two-dimensional and three-dimensional pieces, including jewelry.
This evolution reflects the growing enthusiasm and support of the community for this initiative.
As ArtSpace continues to expand, we hope it will develop its unique identity as a vibrant hub for creativity and connection, welcoming people from all walks of life to participate and enjoy the arts.
Special Programs and Events
ArtSpace hosts three themed exhibits annually—one in spring or summer, one in autumn, and one in winter.
Each exhibit allows participating artists to express their unique voices while aligning with a central theme, creating a diverse and engaging showcase of talent.
To kick off each new exhibit, the church organizes an opening reception.
These events offer a wonderful opportunity for community members to meet the artists, engage with one another, and celebrate the beauty of creativity in a spirit of fellowship and outreach.
Cost and Accessibility
ArtSpace is completely free to participate in and visit.
This program is the church’s gift to the community, aiming to make art accessible to everyone. Whether you’re an artist looking to share your work or a visitor seeking inspiration, there are no financial barriers to enjoying ArtSpace.
